When stress becomes persistent, the nervous system can get stuck in patterns of tension, alertness, or shutdown.
Somatic Experiencing offers a way to work with the body's natural capacity for regulation, rather than pushing through or analyzing experiences intellectually.
This work is grounded in Somatic Experiencing International (SE), a well-established, evidence-informed approach to supporting the nervous system through awareness, pacing, and embodied experience.
This May Help If You Experience
- Chronic stress or overwhelm that won't let up
- Anxiety, restlessness, or difficulty settling
- Fatigue, burnout, or emotional exhaustion
- Ongoing effects of past stress or trauma
- Difficulty feeling present or at ease in your body
- Heightened reactivity or emotional swings
You do not need a trauma diagnosis for this work to be beneficial. Many people come simply because life feels demanding, fast, or dysregulating.
How It Works
Rather than revisiting stories or events in detail, sessions focus on what is happening in your body right now.
We work with:
- Sensations (pressure, warmth, movement, breath)
- Subtle shifts in posture and muscle tone
- Signals of settling, activation, and release
- The body's innate rhythms of effort and rest
Through guided attention and gentle exploration, the nervous system is supported to complete stress responses that were interrupted, find more flexible ranges between activation and rest, and build capacity for resilience over time.
What a Session Is Like
- A brief check-in to orient to what feels present
- Guided awareness rather than "doing" exercises
- Frequent pauses to notice how your system responds
- The option to stop, shift, or adjust at any time
Sessions may feel quiet, subtle, or deeply settling. Change often happens gradually and sustainably, rather than dramatically. The pace is slow, intentional, and collaborative.
How This Differs from Talk Therapy
This work does not require:
- Detailed storytelling
- Re-experiencing difficult events
- Forcing emotional release
Instead, it emphasizes regulation before exploration, helping the nervous system feel safe enough to reorganize naturally.
This work is:
— Educational and supportive
— Not a replacement for medical or psychological treatment
— Offered with clear professional boundaries
If needed, I am happy to collaborate with other healthcare or mental health providers as part of your broader support system.
